Winter Hibernation

It feels a bit like awakening from a long slumber. When I took a week off from blogging right before Christmas, I had no way of knowing that a “week” would end up being three months!

Blogging—I’ve missed it, and I’ve been extremely hesitant to get back into it. But here I am today, wanting to re-connect with you, with my blog, with my public writing-self. Click to read what’s been going on with Traveling Ev!

All About Guns

{Guest Post} How many guns would a normal person want to own? I don’t think there should be a limit. Some people are “gun enthusiasts” just as some people are car enthusiasts. I only need one car but other people may like to have several cars and/or trucks that they use for different purposes or just because they want to. The same thing goes for guns. Resilience is not Enough

{Guest Post} We are facing unbelievable gun violence. Or more precisely: we are facing unbelievable acceptance of gun violence. And we don’t need resilience to fight it. We don’t need to simply steel ourselves to the grimness of the world and refuse to change anything about our daily lives, picking up after yet another tragedy and decreeing that we will not be made to live in fear. Tidbits

Sometimes you have a lot to say on one topic, and sometimes you have a little to say on a lot of topics. Tonight I have the latter. There’s earthquake cake, novels, guns, and more in this entry! Pique your interest? Read more >>

Are You Having Trouble Sleeping?

I toss and I turn. I open my eyes and stare at the ceiling. I sigh loudly. I roll onto my stomach and prop myself up on my elbows. I stare at the dark wall. I think about my life. I roll over onto my back. I throw my pillow on the floor. I cover my head with my blankets. I close my eyes. I think about my life. I sigh loudly. I roll back over and smash my face into the mattress. I turn to the side and curl into a ball. I doze off, fitfully. Does this sound familiar? What might you do about it? >>

Not Cold and Heartless

“I’m thankful for…stuff in my life. You know, just general things.” That’s about all I had to say. I wasn’t satisfied with my response, but couldn’t think of a way to make it better in the moment. My contribution left me feeling slightly cold and heartless, and generally not appearing that thankful for anything. Read More >

Remedy #1 For Finding More Focus

I’ve been having a hard time focusing lately. The solution I’m testing right now? Meditation. So far I’m on day 7 in a row of doing the above meditation and I am much more aware of how frazzled I’ve been. I think the first step is realizing you have a problem, but in conjunction with that, realizing… Read More »

Reflection

In the past few weeks, I’ve published 11 posts relating in different ways to the issue of sexual abuse. The home page of my website is focused solely on that topic right now. It’s a hard topic to write about. It’s draining to think about. Sexual abuse—to young children, sons and daughters, to teenagers, boyfriends, girlfriends,… Read More »

Another Perspective (#8 In This Series)

As an adult, when working with a massage therapist, I was deeply triggered and suddenly, my body began to experience something that was so traumatizing, I immediately disconnected. I had no thoughts or memories, only the feeling of intense fear as I fought. I curled up in a ball and sobbed, the therapist covered me with a blanket and let me work through that moment in peace. (My body would relive bits and pieces of it in the months afterwards.)

Another Perspective (#7 In This Series)

*Note: These are several of the many private responses/comments I have received based on previous posts about sexual abuse. The writers have agreed to let me share their comments. I have chosen to include this variety of responses all in one post, kind of as an extension to the comments that have already been posted underneath the blog entries of the… Read More »

Additional Experiences (#6 In This Series)

*Note: Here are several more of the many private responses I have received based on previous posts about sexual abuse. The writers have agreed to let me share their experiences here. I want to make special note that in this entire series, not all of these stories are from people from the tribe, and not all are from women.  I… Read More »
