Change is Mucid and Oozy

By | July 21, 2015

Change requires emotional energy. If you are lazy and comfortable and not engaging with the world emotionally, you will never muster up the courage or energy to change yourself.

I don’t remember where I first read it, but I love that quote and find it to be so true.

So many times I have found myself feeling dissatisfied with my life and circumstances, wondering how on the surface things could seem so good, but deep down feel so wrong.

It happens when I get lazy and comfortable and stop engaging with the world emotionally. When I’m in that state, I can’t change. I can’t snap out of it. I just persist on feeling down.

It sucks! Have you ever been there?

How do you change yourself?

You start by getting uncomfortable.

“Ugh. I don’t want to exercise. I don’t have the energy. I don’t feel like sweating. I hate being sore.”

These excuses are not options. Get past it. Force yourself to put on your yoga pants and tennies and start moving. It’s uncomfortable, and it requires you to engage. That’s where the change will happen.

Gotta get down. If you're looking for a new group exercise, look into "Pound."

“It would be so cool to learn a new language… Oh well.”

You really want to learn? You can! It will be uncomfortable and it will require you to open a book and engage. That’s where the change will happen.

Read that again.

“Sick. My house is a mess. Everywhere I look, I see piles and piles of crap. It’s too overwhelming to even think about cleaning.”

Guess what? It won’t clean itself and your laziness and comfort with the situation is preventing anything from changing. Change requires emotional energy. If you are lazy and comfortable and not engaging with the world emotionally, you will never muster up the courage or energy to change yourself—or your surroundings.

Change is mucid and oozy. (That means gross, slimy, icky.) It’s hard. It’s uncomfortable. And it’s worth it!
