Flashlight Friday—the day I shine a tiny little spotlight (a.k.a. flashlight) on a traveler who I admire.
Welcome to the first ever Flashlight Friday!
Picture me shining my yellow $2 flashlight in your eyes and asking in a menacing voice, “Where is your toothbrush?”
You whimper and squint, trying to look past the steady beam of light. “It’s over there. At home.” Your pointing finger leads me around the bonfire, past the picnic table, behind a tree, to the dashboard of your car a short distance away.
If your toothbrush is there, you can call it home. That’s one of the best philosophies ever, and the main premise of the website, “Where is Your Toothbrush?“
Peter and Lindsey are an inspiring couple who have decided to quit their jobs, leave their traditional home in Portland, and travel around the world for a year. Their tagline: “Travel the world. Make yourself at home.”
In their own words,
For 12 months beginning on June 17, 2013, home will be wherever we are. Home will be where we set our backpacks down and where we brush our teeth before bed. For an entire year, home will be where our toothbrushes are.
Their itinerary includes the following countries, only one of which I’ve been to so far:
And, of course, they are blogging about it as they travel.
My favorite part of their blog so far is a fun series of posts called, “What is Home? This dives deeper into their premise that home can be wherever you are and you need never be “home sick.”

Leave a comment and tell me, where is your toothbrush? Mine is currently in Indiana, but may not be for long. Looking at Peter and Lindsey’s itinerary and reading about their experiences is giving me itchy feet!
Do you know a traveler who should be featured on Flashlight Friday? Is it you? Let me know, either in the comments or by sending me an email: email@example.com.
