Surprise in the Mail

By | November 19, 2010

I was about to head out for the day when my doorbell rang. “Who could that be?” I wondered. That was only the second time anyone had ever rung my doorbell, and I was not expecting anyone this particular fine San Diego day.

Peering through the peephole, I saw the FedEx man standing there with his little electronic device. When I opened the door, he asked me to sign it because he had two packages for me. “Two packages? From who? What are they? I didn’t order anything.” Intrigued, I signed my name, then waited for several long minutes while he went down the three flights of stairs back to his truck to get my boxes.

He had to make two trips, because the boxes were too big and bulky to carry both together. There were no identifying marks on either of the packages to give me a clue who had sent them to me. But I was giddy with excitement to find out!

Before he left, the FedEx guy asked me if I was expecting anymore packages. I had to laugh, because I wasn’t even expecting these two!

Take the journey with me, as I open my boxes for the first time, in front of the camera.

Wow! What a shocker, to receive so many nice and useful things to add to my (barely furnished) apartment! I love awesome surprises like this!

Now I have this huge empty box that I have to figure out what to do with……

Now I just have to figure out who I want to visit the most! (Don’t be surprised if your doorbell mysteriously rings in the next couple days…)

P.S. There was no note or anything in either of the boxes, as they were both shipped straight from Wal-Mart. But I figured out who sent me the stuff – someone I’ve worked with for several years, who is a reader of my blog and wanted to do something nice for me. Thanks so much! I really appreciate it!
